Lincoln Looses Senate Race, Runs for President

Because of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, Lincoln became known across the United States. It was Douglas who was elected to the Senate by a vote of 54 to 46. Lincoln decided to run for president in 1860. Again he ran against Stephen Douglas as well as two other candidates.
